Každý Den / Every Day
Not that long ago, during a discussion on experiencing places, this question came up, 'How would you describe Czech Republic?'.
My answer; the taste of grapefruit flavoured water, the mix of concrete and plastic smell of panelaks, the bite of -17°C wind in winter, the sound of ice-hockey pucks and sticks on the surface of the frozen Brno reservoir, the female voice of public transport announcements in Prague.
In 2015 I broke one of my own rules - Never go back to a place where you lived before. Don't return to that which might have become a romanticized version of how it really was. It will most likely not live up to those memories, good or bad. It might be a step back in life.
In August 2015 I returned to Brno, Czech Republic.
This is a (re)becoming aware of the environment chosen to return to.
It is also a document of Czech-ness. Those objects which surround us every day, yet we only sometimes are aware of.
