Dead Fountains

Water represents contemplation, calmness, consideration, observation and
reflection.

In the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou, like many other developing cities in the
country, short-term beautifying water features are built that play on the cultural
importance of water as an element in religious and social beliefs.

Dead Fountains is not simply a document of these broken or forgotten features, but
rather stands as metaphor for lack of collective hope, and shows a portrait that
recognises lost aspirations and dreams.
